The Early Intervention Programs in Kentucky serve youth through collaboration with the Court Designated Worker, Department of Juvenile Justice, Family Court, School, or Family Cabinet.

Youth, ages 12-17, who have alcohol or drug related offenses are eligible for this program All Early Intervention Programs are required by the Kentucky Division of Substance Abuse to use the same process, screening criteria and curricula.

After adolescents enter the Juvenile Justice System on al alcohol or drug related charge, the Early Intervention Program may be offered to parents or guardians as a diversion option. A diversion agreement with the Court Designated Worker must be signed and each youth and at least one of his/her parents or guardians are required to attend an Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) Impact Intervention Education class.
