respite \ 'res-pet\ n 1: a temporary delay 2: an interval of rest of relief
Pennyroyal Center Respite Program makes it possible for parents or caregivers to take much needed breaks to go grocery shopping, go to the beauty shop, or out to dinner. Respite also gives the individual a break from the parents as well.
All respite requests are presented to a committee made up of Pennyroyal Center MR/DD Program Managers. Funding is based on need, inability to procure services elsewhere and the availability of state funds. New requests are presented at regularly scheduled meetings of the MR/DD Management Team on the first and third Thursday of the month.
Respite providers must be at least 18-years old with two years experience working with MR/DD clients, or 21-years old with a high school diploma. Medicaid also requires all providers to attend a series of trainings that are provided by Pennyroyal Center.
If an emergency arises and immediate respite is needed, you may call our emergency RESPOND Center toll-free at 1-877-4RESPOND (473-7766).
Pennyroyal Center is a private, not-for-profit organization.
