Kentucky's Early Intervention System
WHAT IS PENNYROYAL FIRST STEPS? Pennyroyal Center First Steps is an early intervention, family centered program. It is designed to share with caregivers of children, BIRTH TO THREE YEARS OF AGE, activities they can do with their child to increase or stimulate their child's development. It also helps families connect with other services, provides a support system to the family, and coordinates services.
HOW IS ELIGIBILITY DETERMINED? Eligibility is based solely on a child's individual developmental growth. To be eligible for services, he/she must either (1) through an evaluation be found to have a significant develpmental delay in one or more areas of his/her development or (2) have a condition that is known to place the child at risk for a developmental delay. (Developmental delays are defined as problems that prevent a child from learning or growing like other infants or toddlers in his/her age range.)
WHAT SERVICES ARE OFFERED? Services include the following: evaluations, assessments, and therapies such as; speech and physical therapy.
WHAT IS THE COST TO THE FAMILY? There is no cost to have a child evaluated or to find out what services are recommended. First Steps requires families, if they are able, to contribute a modest amount (Family Share) toward payment for the services their child receives. This amount is based on total household income and may range from $0 to a maximum of $100 per month for each month a child receives First Steps services. WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY FIRST STEPS? First Steps will not cover physician appointments, medications, or medical procedures.
WHERE ARE SERVICES PROVIDED? Services are usually provided in the home. Services are provided wherever the family desires. The Pennyroyal Center First Steps serves the following counties: CALDWELL, CHRISTIAN, CRITTENDEN, HOPKINS, LYON, MUHLENBERG, TODD & TRIGG.
WHO CAN MAKE REFERRAL & WHERE? ANYONE who has a concern in regards to an infant or toddler's development is encouraged to call the First Steps office.
