Domestic Violence

Program Goal
Pennyroyal Center offers a program of group therapy and education for domestic violence offenders. The primary goal of this program is to stop the violence and provide safety for victims and their children. The program deals with issues of anger management, relationship problems, communication skills, and substance abuse as it relates to violent behavior.
Referrals
Domestic violence offenders are referred to Pennyroyal Center by the courts, DCBS, Probation and Parole as well as self-referrals.
Making an Appointment
Those referred by the courts are expected to call Pennyroyal Center within the time specified by the judge to schedule an assessment and group therapy. Appointments can be made by calling toll-free 1-877-4RESPOND (473-7766), or in Christian County at 881-9551.
You will receive a packet of information including date, time, and location of your assessment and group sessions; information on fees, expectations, rules, and client rights; and forms to fill out and sign (screening and authorizations).
The court requires a report on your compliance (completing your assessment and enrolling in your group session). It is the client's responsibility to take the compliance letter to the Clerk's office to be placed in their file before the proof date set by the court.
The Assessment
An individual assessment will be scheduled with a Pennyroyal Center clinician. Cost of the assessment is $50, which must be paid at the time of the assessment.
Group Sessions
Domestic Violence group sessions follow the assessment. The program includes 25 90-minute weekly group sessions. The cost is $20 per group session, payable at the time of the session.

Regular attendance is mandatory. Non-compliance with the program will be reported to the court. Non-compliant behavior may include repeated absence (three absences result in dismissal); disrupting the group; failing to complete assignments; violation of a court order; or recurring domestic violence.
Counseling for Victims
Pennyroyal Center is concerned for the well-being of victims of domestic violence. They are invited to complete a victim's questionnaire to improve the counseling to the offender.
Victims are also encouraged to seek counseling with Pennyroyal Center clinicians. If there are children in the family, their safety and needs will be assessed, and appropriate actions will be taken if there is concern for their safety.
Fees for this counseling are based on the victim's ability to pay. Referrals may also be made to other community services.
