You know the old saying, "An
ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." The same applies to
Mental Health. Many times people are thrown into situations that can escalate
into serious mental illness if it isn't caught early. The death of a loved
one is one example. That is
why Pennyroyal Center offers several Prevention programs.
This program is coordinated with AARP and is offered in
Christian, Todd and Trigg Counties. The program provides outreach to newly
bereaved spouses in the area. There are a number of social activities,
as well as referrals to other appropriate support programs that Pennyroyal
Center offers. There are no fees involved for persons attending.
This local group covers
all eight counties of the Pennyroyal Region. This program is for parents,
grandparents, and siblings when a child of any age has died. The groups
meet monthly at First Baptist Church, 1400 South Main Street in Hopkinsville
on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of other Pennyroyal Center programs
for grief support such as the Bereavement Adjustment Series.
Bereavement Adjustment Series
This facilitated six
week series is a combination learning and sharing session for persons who
are newly bereaved. This series is held continuously throughout the year.
There is no cost to attend and the sessions are confidential.
